A special vehicle will run through Kharkiv to collect damaged mercury thermometers, fluorescent lamps, and used batteries. Such an initiative called «We give a damn!» was introduced by the public organization "Good Will". This program will enable people to dispose properly of hazardous household waste: this will avoid contamination of water and soil with heavy metals.
In 2019, this project received strong support from residents of Kharkiv. That is why the organization "Good Will" managed to raise funds from the city budget for the program. According to the director of the organization Ksenia Tumanovska 1 vehicle and 20 containers for waste collection have already been purchased.
Containers are planned to be installed at the entrances to metro stations and in other crowded places. Each container will contain 4 compartments: for large and small lamps, as well as for thermometers and batteries. In the first stages of the project, volunteers standing near the containers will promote awareness as to the importance of proper household waste disposal.
